recognised at an awards event celebrating volunteering.<\/p>\n<h2>Volunteer Star Awards<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supportstaffordshire.org.uk\/\">Support Staffordshire (South Staffordshire)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sstaffs.gov.uk\/benefits\/building-better-opportunities.cfm\">South Staffordshire District Council<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/staffscvys.org.uk\/\">The Staffordshire Council Of Voluntary Youth Service<\/a>s held their annual Volunteer Star Awards on Wednesday 5th December at the Council Chambers in Codsall.\u00a0 Eight Building Better Opportunities Stafford &amp; South Staffordshire participants in total were nominated in the awards which publicly recognise and acknowledge the hard work and support that volunteers give to the community of South Staffordshire.<\/p>\n<p>Winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Volunteering Through Adversity: David Norman<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer of the Year (under 25): Ellie Hickman<\/li>\n<li>Community Impact Award: Brewood Library<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering Achievement in Self Development: Karen Cook (highly commended)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ellie Hickman, aged 22 joined Building Better Opportunities Stafford &amp; South Staffordshire having moved to Codsall.\u00a0 Ellie has completed regular voluntary work at a local art gallery where she was assigned a mentor and interacted with customers, as well as volunteering in a charity shop.\u00a0 Ellie said: \u201cI really enjoy the voluntary work.\u00a0 I do general duties like tidying and stocking the shelves, I use the till and the volunteering work has also helped me to better understand change and how to cope with change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discussing her plans for the future, Ellie tells us: \u201cBuilding Better Opportunities has made me more determined.\u00a0 I\u2019m in a better place and more confident, so I\u2019m ready to start college where I\u2019ll be studying for my maths GCSE and continuing with my volunteering.\u00a0 It\u2019s an important qualification which will help me secure a job in the future.\u00a0 I\u2019m determined to live the best life I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>How Can We Help You?<\/h3>\n<p>Building Better Opportunities
