The aim of the course is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to mentor others. This is achieved through providing insight into the process of mentoring and teaching the essential, mentoring skills. Case studies, practical activities and assignments are included.

This course is for those who want to practice and refine mentoring skills and support others in a wide range of contexts, with a view to looking for work as mentors.

Designed for learners wishing to develop their understanding of mentoring. You may already be working in a mentoring, coaching or learning support role or they may be the qualification as part of progression to a role such as mentor, coach or classroom assistant.

Learners will study three mandatory units for the qualification:

Mentoring Skills
Understanding Mentoring
Mentoring Practice

You will learn about:

Building resilience
Stages of the mentoring relationship
Boundaries of a mentoring relationship
Specific skills required in order to mentor
Ways to deal with issues that may arise in the mentoring relationship
Reviewing own practice as a mentor
Delivering and receiving feedback
Positive forms of communication

The qualification is designed to develop knowledge of mentoring, mentoring skills and practice and giving opportunities to develop and improve their skills. This will support learners in further developing their understanding of mentoring and the skills and knowledge required to be a mentor. It is suitable for learners prior to or in employment who wish to develop their understanding of mentoring. Learners may be already working in a mentoring, coaching or learning support role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as mentor, coach or classroom assistant.
